According to Ahmad Barkabiyan, supervisor of West Azarbaijan Customs Department, the exports mainly included steel products, foodstuff, dates, flooring and cables.
Iraq, Turkey, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan and Georgia were the main export destinations, IRNA reported.
Barkabiyan noted that 313 million tons of commodities were imported into the northwestern Iranian province during the same period, which shows a 40% decline year-on-year, according to Financial Tribune.
"West Azarbaijan earned 2.25 trillion rials ($20 million) during the first eight months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Nov. 21), indicating an 18% fall compared with the corresponding period of last year," he said.
